This was so good. This also reminds me to ignore what others “expect” of you. When you are in a season of slowing down and your life looks different from what people are use to “seeing” or what they “think” it should look. To not let their opinions interfere with us doing the work and the recovery.
so good Joy. i think this is one of the hardest things we have to learn is to not do what everyone else is doing. so much easier said then done. sending u so much love.
Also, this was incredible. “Grateful and angry” - whew! If I begin to talk 😭 currently in my recovery stage after dealing with work trauma that truly stung and have been feeling called to speak up about it. This is exactly what has been on my mind and speaking the truth has been on my heart. Thank you for sharing so honestly.
yeah most days i'm grateful... but sometime when i really stop and think about it i can feel the rage in my body. we are such amazing, brilliant beings and the modern workplace just messes us up. i have so much grief for the things that weren't possible because of it. but we are reclaiming our work and our relationship with it. sending u so much love and just send u a dm!
Wow...well if that's not the truth I don’t know what is. I've been in the space of what's next for me and this Maya is a tool I need to add to my mind mapping process. To truly be intentional in my next chapter.
Work therapy please
Grateful that you've found your truth.
Life becomes less of a "ratrace" when we have a compass, God who I believe in or a higher power.
I receive the love and is sending it right back to you and the universe.
just sent in dm. having a compass changed my life. we often say, when you know your why you can endure any how. that is our hope with everyone. that they understand there is such a deep profound "why" as to why you're here, on this planet, at this moment. always love your comments and are so grateful u are here.
I've been sensing that "locking in" season is coming soon and I've been preparing myself to get on board. Thanks for demonstrating that checking out and doing work therapy perhaps is the best (or only) option right now
it's a different kind of "lock in..." ... locking in to yourself and doing the interior work that makes the exterior output more powerful and more fulfilling. one season of deep internal work can change the trajectory of your whole life. so grateful to see u here always!
I am currently in this place. I basically was grinding so hard that I developed acid reflux ulcers, and an autoimmune condition. Now I am slowing down. After 8 years of solo-prenuering, I took a boring job. I don't love being back in a corporate space, but I know I am doing it, prioritizing my healing while I rebuild at a slower, more thoughtful pace. With that being said work-life in being the only or one of few is not for the faint of heart, I defintely need the "work therapy" guidance.
just sent to u in dm. i'm so so happy to hear you slowing down. i really identify with the damage it does to our body. and we need you whole and healed to bring forth your work. taking boring work is a good idea for you right now and it's brave at this time. sending u so much love and grateful to see you here Asha.
I’m trying to figure out why I cry when I read your writing I know this piece is the most profound truth of my experience in the workplace and although I have done much work around my work trauma I feel like nobody fkn talks about it like this. I spent years in higher ed and a native American student once said to me “higher ed is a violent place for women of color”. It took me 2 years after her words to end my abusive relationship with them and then had the nerve to go back. Eventually I got out…I am out…but I stumbled into another abusive work relationship after that that led me to do a shroom healing session that revealed how much workplace trauma I have endured. I’m 56 now and realize I could still use some “work therapy”. Thanks for “seeing me” in your writing.
this is why we do this. u are not alone. in fact, workplace trauma, abuse and suppression is probably the thing we all have most in common. and especially as a woman, and Black woman, it is intentionally designed to strip of us our agency, dignity and our brilliance. but i am so grateful that you are fighting back through your intentional pursuit of healing. you deserve more out of this life and it's coming. thank u for being here and taking the time to read.
This was the exhale I needed! Thank you!
I already have one foot in the “lock-in” season…trying to balance it all!

i get it! sending u a dm now!
